N7779C keysight Tunable Laser Source Description

2024.03.06
The new N7779C Base Series tunable laser source, like the other new N777xC models, is ideal for cost-effective testing of broadband optical devices because of its ability to step quickly to discrete wavelengths with resolutions up to 0.1 pm and typical wavelength repeatability of ±3 pm. Short wavelength setup times (e.g., 300 ms) enable fast step scanning. Like other laser sources in the N777xC family, it delivers peak output power in excess of +12 dBm and low spontaneous emission levels. With power stability of ±0.01 dB per hour, it can also be used as a static local oscillator with a wide tuning range for receiver testing or transmission experiments.

Range and standard deviation: Comparing stochastic models to the real world

How well do statistical models predict the behavior of real-world systems? In many signal integrity applications, such as estimating random jitter at a given bit-error-rate (BER), a given aggregate of statistical distributions is used to infer potential future outcomes. Similarly, Figure 1 depicts a model that predicts the ratio of the histogram range to the histogram sigma (one standard deviation) for various overall sizes of a Gaussian distribution. The predictions indicate that the limits of the range to sigma ratio increase as the population grows.

Six Principles of FFT Analysis with Real-time Oscilloscopes

We live in the time domain. This is where we measure all digital performance. But sometimes, we can get to an answer faster by taking a detour through the frequency domain. With six principles, we can understand how an oscilloscope transforms time domain measurements into a frequency domain view. All six principles are applied “under the hood” by oscilloscopes with a Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) function.
