Anritsu MP1800A Description
The MP1800A signal quality analyzer is a highly scalable plug-in, modular bit error rate tester (BERT). It incorporates a pulse pattern generator (PPG) module to generate the highest quality, highest amplitude signals in the industry, and an integrated bit error analyzer (ED) module with the highest input sensitivity. The platform supports signal analysis including burst patterns, bath jitter and eye diagram measurements. Various types of jitter, such as SJ, RJ, BUJ, SSC, etc., can be generated using the built-in jitter modulation source that supports device jitter tolerance testing.
The MP1800A BERT supports a wide range of code rates from 0.1 to 32.1 Gbit/s and is suitable for signal integrity analysis of various applications such as 100 GbE (25Gx4), OTU-4 (28Gx4), 32G DP-QPSK, CEI-28G, 32G FC, Infiniband EDR (26G), etc. In addition, the MP1800A, combined with the MP1821A MUX and MP1822A DEMUX, supports bit-error-rate (BER) testing up to 56 Gbit/s, making it easy to upgrade for next-generation applications such as CEI-56G-VSR.
The number of channels per MP1800A series PPG or ED module can be selected from 1ch, 2ch or 4ch, supporting multi-channel synchronization of up to 8 channels at 32 Gbit/s. Thus, each channel of AOC, CFP, CXP, QSFP+, etc. can be measured simultaneously, enabling crosstalk and jitter tolerance evaluation tests.
SQA's PPG module outputs signals up to 3.5 Vp-p and supports the evaluation of modulators such as EA and EML. In addition to generating IEEE and ITU-T burst and auxiliary signals to evaluate E-PON, G-PON and 10GE-PON optical modules, the SQA-generated burst data and auxiliary signals automatically set output timing to reduce evaluation time and improve evaluation quality.
The ED module features high sensitivity of 10 mV and high-speed auto-tuning (auto-detection of threshold levels and phase points) of 1 second or less to support accurate and efficient measurements of low output amplitude devices such as AOCs. The installed clock recovery option enables SERDES with different Tx and Rx clocks to achieve pressure jitter tolerance testing and BER measurements of clockless devices such as AOCs in a single module.
The J1621A and J1622A are passive linear equalizers that can be used to help compensate for the effects of distortion on high frequency transmission lines. They can be connected to the ED to compensate for PCB trace loss and improve eye diagram opening. When combined with the high-sensitivity ED MU183040B/MU183041B, these equalizers enable BER and jitter tolerance testing of PHY devices with low eye diagram spread.
The jitter modulator generates a wide amplitude SJ of up to 1 UI at 250 MHz jitter frequency, ensuring sufficient margin for receiver jitter tolerance testing. In addition, it achieves ultra-low 275 fs rms (nominal) intrinsic jitter, both when jitter modulation is OFF and when 0 UI is set to jitter ON, ensuring accurate measurement results even at low jitter amplitudes. In addition to supporting RJ, BUJ, SSC and dual tone SJ, it also supports the latest standards such as CEI-28G and 100 GbE. Anritsu's MP1800A with low intrinsic jitter PPG, fourth-order weighting, high sensitivity ED, eye diagram tension compensation equalizer and automatic measurement software is the ideal total solution for jitter tolerance testing.
Combined with the fourth-order weighting MP1825B, the MP1800A generates the pre-weighting required for high-speed interconnect standards up to 32.1 Gbit/s, such as CEI-28G, 32G FC, and Infiniband EDR (26G). Precise pre-emphasis is always ensured, as each step can be changed individually. By using the fourth-order weighted MP1825B instrument as a remote RF head for the MP1800A and placing it as close to the DUT as possible, the effect of signal attenuation due to cable loss, ISI, etc. is minimized, thus ensuring the highest signal quality at the DUT interface.
When utilizing the 4 PAM/8 PAM converters MZ1834A/MZ183, the 8AMP1800A can be configured to generate high quality, low S/N 4 PAM and 8 PAM data signals required for features such as high-speed backplanes and 400 GbE interfaces. The BER of three 4 PAM eye diagrams can be measured simultaneously.
The MP1800A is the ideal platform for accurate BER measurements of 4PAM signals, with the ability to filter out unwanted errors using the long term storage programmable code pattern feature and error masking.
