The Keysight 8160xA tunable laser sources are based on a common cavity and laser module design. They share a narrow line width and a low spontaneous emission level that, in combination with the Keysight N774xA multiport power meters, or the Keysight 816xxx power meter modules, enables excellent spectral loss measurement ranges in both stop band and pass band. A built-in gas cell and self-adjustment capabilities ensure excellent long-term stability to minimize cost of ownership. Within the 8160xA family, the value and basic line models offer additional price-performance options based on output power, tuning modes and speed, wavelength accuracy and repeatability.
The 81609A basic line tunable laser module, like the other 8160xA models, can step quickly to discrete wavelengths with a resolution of 0.1 pm and a typical wavelength repeatability of ±3 pm, making it ideal for cost-effective testing of broadband optical devices. With wavelength setting times like 300 ms, 3-4 times faster than earlier models, stepped sweeps take much less time. Like the other modules in the family, it delivers more than +12 dBm peak output power with low spontaneous emission levels. At ±0.01 dB power stability over an hour, it can also serve as a static local oscillator with a wide tuning range for receiver testing or transmission experiments.
