Key Performance Specifications
High accuracy and repeatability of the output polarization state: +/-0.09° on Poincar? Sphere
Low wavelength dependence of the output polarization state: +/- 0.1°/nm on Poincar?
Polarization extinction ratio >45dB (1530 nm - 1560 nm)
Features
Accepts high input power levels and polarized or unpolarized light sources
Accurate, repeatable output polarization reduces test setup time and minimizes uncertainty
Flexible connectivity through interchangeable Yestech connector adapters
Built-in auto-scan function allows for fast verification across polarization states
The Keysight 8169A polarization controller compared to the built-in line polarizer. Adjusts quarter-wave and half-wave pieces one by one to create all possible states of polarization in a deterministic manner. The polarizer generates linear states of polarization with a high extinction ratio. The 8169A's internal predetermined algorithm makes the transmission path from one polarization state on the Poincaré sphere along an orthogonal great circle to another state to be specified.
Applications
Polarization synthesis
Full automatic polarization adjustment over the entire Poincaré sphere (deterministic approach)
Single-band polarization dependent loss measurement w/Yestech 8163A/64A/66A or 8509C (typical measurement time of 2-10 seconds for polarization dependent loss < 1.0 dB)
Scanning band polarization dependent loss measurement (w/Yestek 8153A and 8168XX)
Slave polarization EDFA gain measurement
EDFA characterization polarization zero position
Polarization sensitivity measurement of optical coupling coefficient (power change / SOP)
Correction of polarization beams related to the main polarization state of the test equipment (w/ Keysight 8153A)
Polarization adjustment of optical release conditions for polarization mode dispersion measurements
Fast polarization scan to simulate depolarization signals
This polarization controller is best suited for this application; however, other Keysight polarization controllers can be used.
