The Keysight 86105A has two measurement channels: an optical channel and an electrical channel. Each channel has a choice of two bandwidth settings. In the low-bandwidth mode of 12.4 GHz, the oscilloscope has extremely good noise performance, while in the 20 GHz mode, the oscilloscope provides higher fidelity for high-speed signals. The optical channel also has a switchable filter for forming a calibrated SDH/SONET reference receiver. The integrated optical channel eliminates the signal distortion cables and connectors required when using an external receiver and allows for accurate characterization of the optical waveform, thereby reducing the variation in mismatch loss. The optical channel is calibrated at 1310 nm and 1550 nm to accurately display the received optical waveform and signal average power measurements in the optical power unit. Yestech offers switchable filters that support conformance testing at rates of 155, 622, 2488 or 9953 Mb/s.
The electrical measurement channel can be used to measure the electrical signal in the branch circuit, to evaluate receiver performance in transceiver testing, measurements using a variety of external optical receivers from Yesteryear, and other general measurements.
