The Keysight 81613A return loss module is ideal for measuring return loss (RL) and reflection of single-mode fiber components. The module measures the optical power entering and reflecting back from the device under test, and then calculates and displays the return loss. Comprehensive built-in features provide the correct coupling and detector ratios, eliminating the effects of dark currents and residual backscatter in the instrument setup to perform accurate measurements over a wide dynamic range.
The return loss module can be used with a variety of 816x lightwave hosts and can be used with internal Fabry-Perot sources or external fixed wavelength or tunable laser sources. The Yestech power sensor in the 8163B mainframe, especially when used in conjunction with the 81610CC calibration reference cable, allows for simultaneous RL and insertion loss measurements, significantly improving performance and ease of use. The 816x plug-and-play driver supports automated use and also supports advanced scanning wavelength RL measurements using the module.
