The M8195A keysight arbitrary waveform generator combined with the 81195A optical modulation generator software provides an innovative approach to real-time signal generation that can make testing up to 100 times faster.

It can generate signals and impairments in real time. Using FIR filters and other DSP functions, pulse shaping can be performed and optical stress test conditions, such as polarization mode dispersion PMD or phase noise, can be varied.

  • Model:M8195A

  • Name: Arbitrary waveform generator

  • 25 GHz analog bandwidth and 2 GSa memory per AXIe module, expandable to 16 GSa

  • 16 GSa extended memory capable of generating PRBS7, PRBS10, PRBS11, PRBS15 up to PRBS31 code patterns (long PRBS code patterns will take considerable time to calculate and load into the arbitrary waveform generator's waveform memory)

  • Output amplitude up to 1 Vpp (single-ended) or 2 Vpp (differential)

  • Signal baud rates in excess of 32 GBaud

As the speed and complexity of devices and interfaces continue to increase, the M8195A arbitrary waveform generator's rich feature set can generate the signals needed to meet the needs of digital applications, optoelectronic communications, advanced research, broadband radar, and satellite communications.

Key Applications

Coherent optical communications - a single M8195A module can generate two independent I/Q baseband signals (dual polarization = 4 channels) at baud rates up to and beyond 32 GBaud

Multi-level/multi-channel digital signals - can generate signals up to 32 GBaud baud rate, such as NRZ, PAM4, PAM8, DMT, etc. Protocols such as HDMI, C-PHY and D-PHY can also be supported. Embed/de-embed channels, add jitter, ISI, noise and other distortionsPhysical, chemical and electronic studies - Generate arbitrary waveforms with tight mathematical definitions, accurate ultra-short pulses and ultra-broadband linear FM broadband RF/microwave - Generate instantaneous bandwidths Ultra-wideband RF signals from DC to 25 GHz for aerospace/defense/communications application-specific random interference (RI) sources requiring the M8070A

The Keysight M8195A Arbitrary Waveform Generator (AWG) provides up to four output channels simultaneously on a single-slot AXIe module with sample rates up to 65 GSa/s, bandwidths up to 25 GHz, and 8-bit vertical resolution.

As devices and interfaces become faster and more complex, the rich functionality of the M8195A AWG gives you the power to generate the signals you need for applications such as digital applications, advanced research, broadband radar, satellite communications, and fiber optic communications.

The advanced 3-stage sequence generation feature enables longer signal scenarios. An external dynamic control option is also available when the M8197A module needs to synchronize multiple M8195A modules.

M8195A is supported by German keysight software

The M8195A Arbitrary Waveform Generator provides a trigger input to achieve ±20 ps time delay accuracy when combined with the M8197A Multichannel Synchronization Module. When used in conjunction with N5990A software options 151 and 153, the M8195A can provide HDMI and MHL receiver test solutions.

The M8195A Arbitrary Waveform Generator can also be controlled by the M8070A Bit Error Rate Test System software with the M8085A software plug-in to generate test signals compliant with the MIPI C-PHY and D-PHY standards. Using real-time mode, sequence generation capabilities and deep memory, new test areas can be explored beyond previous limitations. Explore new opportunities.

Additional Information.

The M8195A is also available through the system software suite M8195S. The M8195S can be dynamically configured for the desired number of channels. In addition to the module itself, AXIe chassis, embedded controllers, or external PC connectivity can be added automatically.
