Nokia Bell announced that recently, under the guidance of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the IMT-2030 (6G) Advancement Group organized the 6G key technology concept prototype test, and Nokia Bell successfully completed the terahertz communication and pass-through integration test verification.
The IMT-2030 (6G) Promotion Group was established under the guidance of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and other ministries and commissions as a major platform for promoting research and international exchange and cooperation on sixth-generation mobile communication technologies by bringing together industry, academia, research and application. The group will start 6G technology trials in 2022 to evaluate and test potential key 6G technologies. As one of the key members of China IMT-2030 (6G) Promotion Group, NokiaBell is actively involved in driving key 6G technology research, evaluation and validation activities.
According to the introduction, terahertz communication is the most promising technology for exploring larger bandwidth and new spectrum resources in the 6G era. Recently, Nokia Bell has achieved fruitful results in ultra-high-speed wireless transmission research in the terahertz band. Through a series of technologies such as innovative air interface, artificial intelligence-based wireless receiver and multi-layer MIMO (multiple input multiple output), the 220GHz band terahertz concept prototype has achieved high-speed wireless transmission of over 200Gbps in a test environment, which will actively promote the 6G era immersive XR, holographic presentation and other metaverse applications.
As one of the 6G pillar technologies, pass-through integration will empower future communication networks with ubiquitous sensing capabilities, thereby enhancing human perception and enabling network intelligence to provide a ubiquitous sixth sense. Through its innovative pass-sense integration architecture and advanced communications-aware fusion technology, Nokia Bell enables high-performance and diverse sensing in complex environments, including high-precision localization with decimeter-level trajectory tracking, non-contact vibration detection with very low error rate (< 0.1%) in industrial environments, multi-target intrusion detection, non-contact respiratory monitoring with the same accuracy as commercial medical instruments, and also with high speed wireless communication at a much higher spectral efficiency than 5G systems. These breakthroughs in through-sensing integration lay the foundation for new applications such as smart homes, digital factories and smart cities of the future.
